PLYMPTON could be in for a tough time in the Premier Division this season after a mass exodus from the Harewood Park during the winter.

First to go was consistent run-getter Justin Wubbeling, who now lives in the Exeter area and has signed for Plympton’s Premier rivals Bradninch & Kentisbeare.

Wubbeling will be back on familiar territory this Saturday as Bradninch & Kentisbeare open the season with a trip to Harewood Park.

Next out of the dressing room door was left-arm spinner Jacob Caunter, who switched to Cornwood.

Caunter was followed to Oak Park by Devon all-rounder Ben Privett, who starred for Devon with runs and wickets in the T20 double-header against Cornwall on Sunday.

And in the final few days of the winter transfer window, spinner Josiah Caunter decided to join his brother at Cornwood.

With no significant signings over the winter, skipper Alex Carr looks to have a tough job on his hands keeping Plympton in Devon’s top flight. The side that contained both Caunters, Wubbeling and Privett finished one place above the drop spots last season, which does not bode well for the 18 weeks ahead.

Alex Carr, who is carrying on as Plympton captain, said: “It is no great secret a few lads have moved away or left, but we have still got plenty of quality cricketers in the club.

"We will battle away, enjoy it with pressure off and see where we end up?"

Plympton’s professional is Shahbaz Javed, who is a keeper bat from Pakistan. He will be a week late arriving due to visa delays and his First Class comp finishing this week.

Javed isn’t the only player missing in round one.

“Unfortunately, we have a few more away this week than usual due to a combination of school cricket and Argyle's big match at home against Hull,” said Carr.
